About Us
Frayed Edge Press is an independent press located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which specializes in publishing marginalized voices, forgotten history, overlooked literature in translation, and works that wrestle with important questions impacting contemporary society. We publish literary fiction and poetry, as well as non-fiction titles in history and political science. We also publish the Street Smart Series of Short Fiction, consisting of contemporary, urban-set novelette-length works. Translated works in any of these categories are also considered if rights are in-hand. We especially welcome marginalized voices, both historical and contemporary, including women, people of color, ethnic and religious minorities, the LGBTQ+ community, and progressive political viewpoints. We seek original and thought-provoking works, including experimental fiction, contemporary poetry, and non-fiction focused on political and environmental concerns, history, civil rights, women's rights, and sustainability.
This press operates in Philadelphia, which sits on part of the traditional territory of the Lenni-Lenape, called “Lenapehoking.” We acknowledge the Lenape-Lanape as the original people of this land and their continuing relationship with their territory. And we affirm the aspiration of the great Lenape Chief Tamanend, that there be harmony between the indigenous people of this land and the descendants of the immigrants to this land, “as long as the rivers and creeks flow, and the sun, moon, and stars shine.” (shortened from the land acknowledgement statement on the tribal website).
We do not discriminate of the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, ability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender expression, and we do not tolerate those who do. We resist and reject all forms of bullying and intimidation, even from those who sincerely believe that they are "right." We respect your privacy and will never give away or sell your personal information, including contact information. Any mailing lists created through information gathered from sign-up forms or customer records, by us or by our distribution partner(s), can be unsubscribed from quickly and easily.

Our Philosophy of Publishing |
Frayed Edge Press is an independent, collaborative publisher, working cooperatively with our authors to share both the risks and rewards of publication. We are not a traditional publisher nor are we a self-publisher or vanity press. All works published by our press are vetted by our editorial staff and subjected to developmental editing when necessary; final drafts receive professional editing, proofing, and production services. Our authors work collaboratively with us to create and market high-quality, engaging, and readable works. For more information, see our FAQs.
