When open for submissions, we seek interesting, well-written works that are a bit "on the fringe." We welcome experimental works, and those that wrestle with contemporary societal issues, "big" ideas, and/or represent marginalized voices and progressive viewpoints. We support diverse books and are particularly interested in, but not limited to, works expressing the viewpoints of women, people of color, ethnic and religious minorities, and the LGBTQ+ community.
Please explore the sections below for more information regarding what we are looking for in each category, and to find a link for submitting queries. Also visit our FAQ page for more information about publishing with us.

We specialize in publishing non-fiction works that are a bit on the edge. This includes:

- Works focused on the environment and sustainability

Fiction
We publish literary fiction, both novels and short story collections. While we are not looking for genre fiction, works may contain genre elements. We also publish the Street Smart Series of Short Fiction, featuring novelette-length works with contemporary urban settings, well-drawn characters, and an engaging plot.
Literary Fiction
We are currently accepting proposals for literary fiction with an edge, including novels and short story collections. We are not looking for genre fiction, but will consider literary fiction with some genre elements. Your work should be character-driven and incorporate serious themes that encourage the reader to think deeply about some aspect of the human condition. "Serious" does not mean taking oneself too seriously, however; humor is encouraged. We are also interested in publishing translated works of literary fiction and edited editions of older, "forgotten" literary works of merit. Literary fiction manuscripts should be within the ~45,00-100,000 word range.
Query via this link with a 100-250 word summary of your plot and a 500-1,000 word writing sample from the work.

Street Smart Series of Short Fiction
For this series of short fiction, we’re looking for manuscripts of 10,000 to 20,000 words – long enough to involve the reader in a good story, but brief enough to be read on a short train journey or long commute. This size manuscript is essentially a “novelette” – a work that is longer than a short story, but shorter than a novella.
Your story should have a contemporary urban setting, well-drawn characters, and an engaging plot. Action, suspense, and even some sex and violence are great, but not mandatory. Humor is a plus and diverse characters are an expectation. We’re open to various genres as well as cross-over, multi-genre works. Some good models to think about are: hard-boiled detective stories, noir fiction, street lit, and urban fantasy. Elements of mystery, horror, SF, and/or some romance are also fine – but please, no “cozy” mysteries or anything that is primarily romance. Everything published in this series will have a dark underbelly and some grit to it.

Poetry
We are interested in contemporary poetry from writers who know the formal rules but aren't afraid to break them. We are also open to publishing translated poetry and edited editions of older, "forgotten" works of merit. We are accepting proposals for single-authored, full-length poetry books. We are not charging reading fees at this time.
Full Length Poetry Collections
We are currently accepting proposals for single-author collections of contemporary poetry, as well as suggestions for translations or reprints. Finished length of work will generally be within the 85 to 200 page range. Collections should have some over-arching theme or focus, as opposed to being a miscellaneous collection of work.
Query via this link with a proposed collection title, a brief description of the author's approach to poetry and the book's focus or theme if any, and a writing sample consisting of 2 to 3 representative poems.

Poetry Chapbooks
We are not accepting proposals for poetry chapbooks at this time.
Anthologies
We publish in-house anthologies only. Please do not query us with proposals for anthologies or multi-author works.
Future plans: A call for submissions for an anthology of environmental poetry.
